Contract Type: Self-funding consultation and utility services
Reducing Costs with No Reduction of Service
As a national charity, the MS Society needed to find cost savings in every area of expenditure. Energy featured very prominently as a target for cost reductions. With three major respite care homes around the country and a central Head Office in London, Team Q Energy Services were approached initially in 2001 to create savings and then to capitalise on this work, by identifying further savings.
Close Monitoring
An initial audit showed potential savings of £25,000, for combined electricity and gas supply contracts, across their portfolio. The exercise included the reclaiming of over paid charges as well as achieving the most competitive supply price.
With a saving guaranteed, funding was then available to commission a survey of the sites and generate further reduces in utility costs. Options ranged from changing heating system controls, to swimming pool management and simple good housekeeping ideas. A further 20% reduction of annual costs, with an average payback of less than two years was achieved.
Support services provided on an ongoing basis include: identifying invoicing problems, handling procurement matters for the Head Office, utility VAT issues and providing assistance on utility budgeting matters to cover an ever changing utility market.
Costs Covered by Savings
Initial supply contract savings were able to fund further cost reduction initiatives. Ongoing relationship highlights further reductions, to keep energy use for the charity as cost effective as possible.
Allows the Charity to Channel Funds into Care
As a national charity they have a responsibility to their sponsors and volunteers to make their contribution count in the best possible way. Team Q Energy Services make sure utility overheads are reduced to a minimum, so the charity can focus the largest proportion of funds on the care of MS sufferers.
